Vintage travel posters: a wall that makes you want to leave
Composing a gallery of destinations without slipping into postcard territory. Color harmony, choosing your stops, and where to hang it: living room, hallway, office.
The travel poster is a distinctly French genre. Cassandre, Roger Broders, Loupot and Carlu developed a visual language between 1925 and 1935 that reduced a destination to three flat fields of colour. PLM commissioned series for the Côte d’Azur, the London & North Eastern Railway for Scotland, and Compagnie Normandie for transatlantic crossings.
This was the golden age of the illustrated poster, just before photography took over. This collection brings together destinations we love (the Riviera, Italy, Morocco, Japan and the United States), treated in the spirit of Art Deco. Archival reproductions on 275 g/m² art paper.
